Using Pintab from the Safari browser
|

Hi-
I have been testing your PinTab control for awhile, and have recently purchased it. It has been working fine in I.E., Opera, and Firefox for Windows, and FireFox on Mac OS-X. Recently, however, I tried using Safari on OS-X to test the pages that had been working with the other browsers. The Tab control loaded, and the first Tab loaded, but when I clicked on any of the other Tabs, nothing happened.
I know this is not a Mac problem, as Mac FireFox works fine.
Do you have any idea what might be causing this problem? It is a show stopper, as the client is a Mac-only shop, and they need to use Safari.
The version of Safari is 2.0.4(419.3).
Thanks,
-Andrew

Hi Andrew,
that's a problem because we officially do not support Safari.
There might be an incompatibility.
Is there any error message ?
Is there a Safari script debugger ?
Regards,
Hans-Peter

Uh oh...
This could be a real problem.
I do not have a Mac myself for testing. I only know what I saw at the client's office: the first tab, and the names of the other tabs, load OK. But any clicks on the other tabs do nothing at all. It almost seems like the browser is not seeing the tab titles as "clickable", if that makes any sense. I did not see any errors while using Safari; it just doesn't work. I confirmed that another Mac in a different office also had the same issues with Safari. As far as I can tell, the client has the latest version of Safari and all patches are up to date.
It seems strange that the control wouldn't work in a standards-compliant browser. Perhaps Safari is not compliant? Your PinTab looks to the client like pure JavaScript and CSS, correct? So it should work...
When you say Safari is not supported, does that mean you know for a fact Safari won't work with the PinTab control, or does it just mean you haven't tested the control with Safari?
Any light you could shed here would be great...is there anything I should look for, anything I could try to see what the specific issue might be? I wonder if it could be related to those .CSS errors I was getting the other week...This project has been under development for 4 months now, and is due in the next week. I would hate to have to start all over with another control...especially considering I haven't seen any other tab controls that work like yours!
Do you know if any of your users have had any luck with Safari and the Tab control?
Thanks. As you can probably tell, I'm a little desperate here...
-Andrew

Hi Andrew,
as the other browsers work well Safari should also work.
The reason is there there are incompatibilities.
1) Did you already update to latest pinTab version ?
Please goto www.pintexx.com --> Support ---> Fix
2) Can we access your web site ?
Regards,
Hans-Peter
